Every Student, Every Day: West Islip Begins its 2026-27 Chapter

West Islip Union Free School District welcomed students back to classrooms on Sept. 3, marking the official start of the 2026-27 school year. The first day was filled with excitement as students arrived ready to begin a new year of learning, growth and opportunity. Teachers, staff, administrators and board of education members were on hand throughout the district to greet students and help make the first day a warm and welcoming experience.
From the elementary schools through West Islip High School, students reunited with friends, met their teachers and settled into new classrooms and routines. Hallways and classrooms quickly came alive as students organized their supplies, explored their learning spaces and began their first lessons of the year. The day was a familiar return for many heading back to a favorite school and an exciting first step for those entering a new building or grade level.
Teachers used the first day to establish classroom communities, introduce expectations and encourage students to approach the year with curiosity and confidence.
From academics, athletics and the arts to clubs, extracurricular activities and hands-on learning experiences, West Islip students will have numerous opportunities to learn, lead and grow throughout the year.
