West Islip High School senior Max Tate has been selected as the recipient of the inaugural Northwell Health Scholar Athlete Scholarship, presented in conjunction with Section XI. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, leadership and community service, Max was awarded a $2,500 scholarship.
Max has distinguished himself as one of West Islip’s top student-athletes, excelling both in the classroom and on the field. A dedicated scholar enrolled in a rigorous Advanced Placement and college-level courseload, he has earned an impressive grade point average and was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction.
Max has served as captain of both the varsity football and varsity lacrosse teams. His leadership, determination and commitment to his teammates have made him a respected role model among his peers. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, National Math Honor Society and National Science Honor Society. He has also demonstrated a strong commitment to service through volunteer work with youth football and lacrosse camps, L.I. Cares Food Bank, the HEARTT Club and peer tutoring programs in mathematics and science.
“Max truly represents the very best of what it means to be a West Islip student-athlete,” said Tim Horan, Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics, Nurses and Recreation. “His dedication to academics, athletics, leadership and helping others makes him extremely deserving of this prestigious recognition. We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and excited for his future, and we appreciate Northwell Health’s support of Section XI student-athletes.” Max will attend SUNY Stony Brook, where he plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
