Bayview Welcomes Community Guests for Special Reading Event

Bayview Elementary School hosted a Community Readers Day on April 24 as part of its Parents As Reading Partners Program. The event welcomed a diverse group of guest readers from across the community, including Board of Education members, firefighters, police officers, a musician, an architect, the children’s librarian from the West Islip Public Library, retired teachers, an Air Force pilot and a real estate agent. Each guest visited classrooms to share their love of reading while highlighting the importance of literacy in their personal and professional lives.
Students were engaged and inspired as they listened to stories read by community role models, gaining a deeper appreciation for the value of reading both in school and beyond. One of the visitors, a science teacher, conducted a hands-on experiment, while a local fitness instructor led students in an energizing mini fitness session.
Community Readers Day not only reinforced the importance of literacy, but also strengthened connections between students and the community members who support them. The event is a reflection of the district’s ongoing commitment to fostering a love of reading and building meaningful partnerships that enrich the educational experience.
