Arts & Letters Parent Academy

On March 9, the district hosted a Parent Academy workshop to share information about Arts & Letters, the district’s new K–5 English Language Arts program. Dana Musso, Director of Foundational Literacy (K–5), led the workshop and shared how Arts & Letters fits within the district’s comprehensive literacy framework and aligns with the research behind the Science of Reading. During the presentation, families learned how the program develops language comprehension and writing through knowledge rich texts and engaging topics, while teaching reading and writing in an integrated way. Following the presentation, parents had the opportunity to speak with classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and administrators, explore program materials, and preview many of the books and student work connected to the curriculum. The evening was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the meaningful literacy learning taking place in our classrooms and to continue strengthening the partnership between our schools and families.
