Udall Science Students Visit High School Lab

Eighth grade middle school science research students from Udall Road Middle School visited West Islip High School on Jan. 15 to learn firsthand about the science research program and explore advanced STEM opportunities.
During the visit, students toured the high school science laboratories and the technology department, gaining insight into the facilities and resources available at the high school level. The middle school students worked alongside high school seniors in the science research program, assisting with data collection and learning about the seniors’ ongoing research projects.
The visit also provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, as eighth graders shared details about their own research projects and asked questions about expectations, coursework and experiences within the high school science research program. Through these interactions, students gained a clearer understanding of the skills, commitment and opportunities involved in pursuing science research at the high school level.
Overall, the experience served as an engaging and informative introduction to the high school’s STEM offerings, helping students envision their future academic pathways and fostering excitement for continued learning in science and technology.
