In addition to its universal pre-kindergarten program, the district provides an opportunity for its early childhood education and advanced child study students to work with 4-year-olds in its Little Lions Preschool. West Islip High School students write detailed lesson plans and design activities similar to those in college education courses to conduct age-appropriate art, music, math, science, story and game activities. The program, which runs a half-day session three times a week, provides a well-rounded educational experience for children to learn, grow and form friendships while affording an opportunity for high school students enrolled in child study classes to work directly with young children.
