Proposed Sale of Masera Property
55-and-over Luxury Development
On September 10, 2020, the Board of Education approved a purchase and sale agreement with Terwilliger & Bartone Properties LLC for the Masera School property. The 11-acre property, located on Udall Road, originally opened in 1955 as Paumanok Elementary School and has remained closed in recent years. The Board of Education engaged in a comprehensive process to review options for the future of the property, engaging the community and conducting meetings with prospective buyers. After much discussion, it was determined that senior housing was the best use of the property and would provide the best financial outcome for district residents.
The district has hosted several public forums to provide voters with the opportunity to meet with the developers and discuss the property redevelopment. Information about the development can be viewed in the Redevelopment Facts.
For the sale to be finalized, it will require approval from the community. The vote has been scheduled for January 19, 2021 at West Islip High School from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Reference dates and deadlines in the “Important Information”.
Community members will receive information on the vote via a postcard mailer and newsletter to be distributed in January, 2021.

MASERA SALE PROPOSITION
Shall the Board of Education of the West Islip Union Free School District be authorized to sell the property known as the Masera School located at 650 Udall Road, West Islip, New York 11795 for a total purchase price of $8,545,455.00 plus a charitable contribution of $1,000,000.00 to be made for the purpose of replacing and/or improving the District’s athletic fields in accordance of the terms of the contract of sale with Terwilliger & Bartone Properties LLC dated September 11, 2020?
