Students in Mrs. Wittneben’s second-grade class at Oquenock Elementary School had an exciting opportunity to connect with their buddy class in Texas for Read Across America! They enjoyed a reading of “Balloons Over Broadway” by Melissa Sweet from Mrs. Wittneben and listened to “The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush” by Tomie dePaola from Texas!

During their exchange, Oquenock students learned about the rodeo, discovering that it involves much more than cattle; it’s a celebration of creativity, featuring art and delicious foods like deep-fried Twinkies and Oreos. Meanwhile, their Texas buddies were fascinated by the New York accent and couldn’t help but ask if New Yorkers really fold their pizza like a taco!
