West Islip High School seniors Christine Lombardi and Brendan O’Regan have been recognized by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. This prestigious award honors seniors who exemplify exceptional physical performance, scholarship, character, leadership and citizenship.
Christine has excelled in physical education and as a three-sport student-athlete, maintained a 4.0 GPA in rigorous Advanced Placement and Honors courses. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National World Language Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Beyond academics, she has dedicated more than 1,000 hours to community service. As the captain of the varsity soccer team, Christine’s leadership and skill helped guide her team to a Long Island championship. She is also a three-year varsity cheerleader, earning regional and national accolades, and a two-year varsity softball captain. Her contributions on the softball field played a pivotal role in securing the 2024 county championship. While Christine has yet to decide on a college, she plans to pursue a degree in accounting or civil engineering.
Brendan has demonstrated excellence both academically and athletically, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in challenging Advanced Placement and college-level courses. A three-sport scholar-athlete, he is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National World Language Honor Society and National Science Honor Society. Brendan’s academic achievements are complemented by his participation in the school’s wind ensemble and Vocal Motion performance team. In addition to his school commitments, he has contributed 150 hours to community service initiatives. As a three-year varsity starter and captain of the swim team, Brendan’s leadership and talent have been instrumental to the team’s success. He earned All-County honors and competed in the New York State swim championship as part of the 200-meter medley relay team. Beyond swimming, Brendan has excelled in cross-country and spring track. He plans to study marine engineering in college.
