Paul J. Bellew Elementary School was a sea of red, white and blue as the students, staff and the community celebrated Flag Day on June 14. Board of Education members, friends, family, central office administrators and members of the local veterans’ groups joined the students in a morning of celebration and reflection to pay tribute to the American flag.

The West Islip Fire Department had its flag on display as Paul J. Bellew Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts raised the school flag. Paul J. Bellew Principal Rhonda Pratt welcomed guests to the ceremony, which included patriotic musical performances from all grade levels. Some of the performances included the chorus, band, orchestra, recorders and a special song from the youngest students. Students from each grade level shared their poems and essays about patriotism and what flag day means to them.
