The West Islip flag football team and coaches Greg Ziems and Jake Rossi qualified for the playoffs in their first season. They did so well during the regular season that they had a high enough seed to host a home playoff game. The athletes took a calculated risk signing up for the first team in West Islip history, stepped outside their comfort zone and were rewarded with experiences and new friendships. The team celebrated their tremendous success at a recent team banquet, coordinated by the parents and boosters, where they received a proclamation from the Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Councilman Mike McElwee. The Lions also were recognized as a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team.
