First graders in Ms. Kallman’s class at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School took to the STEM lab on Oct. 22 to conduct pumpkin investigations. Rotating through different stations, the students predicted whether the pumpkin would sink or float. They tested their theories by dropping a pumpkin into a bucket. Next, the student scientists cut a piece of string to see if it properly fit around their pumpkin. The first graders also had to guess how much their pumpkin weighed and how many seeds were inside.
