Fifth graders at Bayview Elementary School learned about chemical reactions as part of their recent science unit. During their time in the STEM lab with Ms. Caufield, students put their knowledge to the test by experimenting with different chemical combinations.

After learning that vinegar is an acid, fifth graders watched videos demonstrating the powerful reactions when mixed with other materials. In their experiment, students first tested baking soda, baking powder and a purple cabbage liquid to see how they would react when combined with water. They then mixed the same liquids with vinegar, comparing their different outcomes.
